The adidas success story began in the laundry room of brothers Adolf and Rudolf Dassler's mother in Herzogenaurach.  They had been making sports shoes there since the early 1920s. In the mid-1930s, the Dassler brothers produced special shoes for various sports, including tennis shoes from 1931. adidas AG was founded in August 1949 by Adolf Dassler. The company founder also patented the shoe model with the three parallel stripes as a trademark. The company name is made up of Dassler's nickname "Adi" and the first three letters of his surname.

In the 1960s, adidas also established itself in the world of tennis with its clever and innovative products. In 1965, a special tennis shoe made of leather was produced - before that, textile and canvas shoes were the most common in tennis. Since the early years, the adidas trademark has been three parallel stripes that can be seen on adidas products. Over the past decades, the "brand with the three stripes" has had many prominent brand ambassadors from the sports and lifestyle sector, including tennis icon Stan Smith and former professional footballer David Beckham.
